The Yetu Festival The most awaited festival in Kenya is finally here! The Yetu Festival will be going down on Saturday October 29 at the Waterfront, Ngong racecourse. A horde of A-list celebrities including Rhumba maestro group Them Mushrooms and Rhumba Japan will lead in the throwbacks. Currently flying high with his latest release ‘Mungu Pekee’, Nyanshiski will thrill his fans alongside Nameless, reggae- dancehall singer Wyre, soulful maestro Eric Wainaina, impeccable duo Amos and Josh, Onyi Papa Jey, Fena and ‘fundamentals’ singer Ken Wa Maria. On the wheels of steel will be Djs John, Xclusive, Hypnotiq, Andre and Kym. The Yetu Festival is a celebration of Kenya’s culture, food, music and entertainment. The event is expected to set you back a paltry Ksh 2,000. Giovanni Live in concert Acclaimed musician Giovanni Kiyingi will headline November’s first edition of the Roots International Thursday Nite Live musical series at choices Pub on Baricho road this Thursday. You will remember Giovanni as the Uganda folk singer- songwriter and world music artist famed for his skills as a multi-instrumentalist who plays the local Ugandan fiddle (endingidi), akogo, adungu, djembe, calabash, congas, maracas etc. He has headlined many internationals festivals including Pearl Rhythm Festival in Uganda, Utam Festial and Irimba Cultural Festial in Arusha. Parties at Skywolrd Formerly Ntyce, Skyworld lounge located on Tom Mboya Street will host a series of parties starting Wednesday and culminating on Sunday – with Lady Maureen bringing down the house every Tuesday and Wednesday. Dj Kayswitch will take over the reins on Friday, as Dj Spinzz hands him a break on Saturdays. Sunday will see King Lion Sounds featuring Papa Charlie and King Tubbs take you through some cool sensational reggae to ‘free up’ black people. Brothers of the Grill The second edition of the Jack Daniel’s hosted music and barbeque festival that is brothers of the grill fizzles up on Saturday October 29 at the Nairobi Arboretum in the afternoon. Restaurants are already sharpening their skills in preparation to contest the coveted and tasty prizes. Charges will be a sumptuous Ksh 2,000. Party at Club da Place, Kisumu Kisumu’s leading entertainment joint, Cub Da Place – sports bar and lounge has lined up themed nights starting today and every day. Themed the Friday Showdown – experience exclusive music beats from Top African and international acts. Saturday is themed Grown Folks Night and Sunday, a Lean Back Night. Reggae in the sun The reggae in the Sun concert will go down on Saturday October 29 in the afternoon at the Go Down Arts Centre. Crème acts include Gravitti Band, Tunedem, Shamir, Freeman, Ras Mtapa, Juma Tutu Band, Muzikal Sheriff, Mc Phillipo, DJS Tsunami, Shiqx, Klash and Namosky. Charges are Ksh 500.
